Writing Prompts

Updated: Jul 14, 2019

Here are some writing prompts for you - and for myself maybe if I ever get the time to try and tackle these:

The Man Who Sold the World -- A powerful alien race comes to the earth and mistakenly think someone (such as the President of the U.S.) is the ruler of the world. They offer the person tremendous wealth in exchange for the world. The person makes the deal and the aliens believe they now own the world. (yes - likely inspired by David Bowie - one of my favorite musicians when I was a kid) (3/27/18)

Born Six Feet Under -- A pregnant woman is buried and the baby is born inside the grave. Probably would have to be that the woman lived in a time and place before embalming, but might be interesting if could somehow make it work in the modern world. (4/13/18)

From the Deep -- The oceans of the world have warmed up, greatly increasing the amount of plankton and changing the places in the ocean where different species are found. In all the turmoil from the changes, strange exotic species become more abundant, including one that will change the world as we know it forever. (4/13/18)

Hitler's Unfortunate Children -- When the allies liberate an extermination camp they find a small nursery in the onsite clinic with a dozen babies. As the babies grow up they seem normal enough. In young adulthood two are killed in accidents, and one kills himself. The remaining nine live to be a ripe old age without much ado, but then they all suddenly disappear. Turns out they are immortal - in the sense that they will never die of disease or old age although they can die in accidents and such. But, it turns out, although they can't die, they do continue to get older and older - both older looking and older feeling. Their bodies become torture cells in which they are full of more and more pain.  (4/13/18)

Aliens Hiding in Plan Sight -- Another ocean one: It turns out aliens have been living here all along. They are some exotic species living in the ocean depths. Perhaps they're jelly fish? This would explain a lot - such as I've always found it kind of odd that very little effort has been made to populate the oceans. Even ocean exploration, while it does happen, is nonetheless kind of lame. And jelly fish especially seem very alien. And perhaps they're even allowing and/or encouraging climate change? Maybe they've been listening to us through the trans-ocean cables? And now the internet? Lots of different things come to mind with this one. (7/14/19)
